These are excellent companions to the Word. I have found them challenging, edifying, reassuring and ultimately helpful in my own personal battles against indwelling sin:

- Alan Redpath’s “Victorious Christian Living: Studies in the Book of Joshua” — This one is sort of a spiritual blender; it turned me into mince meat. But it is an immensely practical application of God’s Word in fighting this war.

- “Rejoicing in the Lord Jesus in All Cases and Conditions: Together With Two Sermons, ‘The Hope of the Saints in Heaven’ and ‘A Christian’s Freedom from Condemnation in Christ’” by Robert Asty (ed. Don Kistler) — This is helpful with dealing with doubt & defeat, and not beating yourself up over indwelling sin. Practically each page contains a necessary constant reminder of our “interest” in Christ as our “surety” of forgiveness & right-standing before God.

- “The Christian in Complete Armor”, by William Gurnall. A 3-volume set in it’s entirety (I think abridged versions are available), Gurnall explains in detail what each piece of the armor is and how to “wear” it effectively to get victory in this multi-front war.
