Walk in Wisdom – Gleanings from Scripture

Today’s Readings: Mark 12:28-34; 2 Cor. 9;
Ps. 104; 1 Sam. 21-23
Having been away, I would like to step back to Ps. 100 for our reflection today.
5 extraordinary verses.
Note the first of 7 reasons why we ought to:
a. Make a joyful noise to the LORD;
b. Serve the LORD with gladness!; and
c. Come into his presence with singing!.
1. Because “the LORD, he is God!” i.e. because it is Jehovah, who is our God,
and not someone or some-thing, else. The Same LORD who in Ex. 34 revealed
Himself to be: “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to
anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love
for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no
means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the
children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.” What a LORD to
have as our God!
Note secondly, “it is He who made us” – we are not purposeless blobs of
accidental protoplasm.
And that, (thirdly) “we are His” – We have value because we belong to Him.
Fourthly, we are “the sheep of His pasture” – He tends to us Himself with His own
sovereign, glorious, loving hand.
Fifth, “He is good” – and can be nothing other!
Sixth, “His steadfast love endures forever” – not for but a mere moment, or
until WE fail.
And lastly, “His faithfulness” lasts to “all generations.” He remains ever mindful
of all His promises and covenants and will not fail of even the smallest part of
any of them.
Are these not sufficient reasons then to make a joyful noise, and serve Him
with gladness and to come into His presence with singing? Indeed!
Our God is so good and gracious and merciful and loving and faithful. How can
we do any other?
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Oh come and praise His name with me just
now.
