From Matthew 28:1-10 / Risen!
The Marys came at crack of dawn
To see His tomb alone
Perhaps they thought the morning quake
Had jarred aside the stone

They came with spices to anoint
His body in the tomb
No doubt their grief engulfing them
The future dark with gloom

When what seemed first an aftershock
Did make the ground to shake
Was proved to be an angel’s act
His presence brought the quake
_______________________________________
Thus there he sat, and they beheld
Like lightening, white as snow
This mighty, Heav’nly messenger
An empty tomb to show

The guards in fear fell down like dead
The stone was rolled away
The angel told them not to fear
“Come see where He once lay”

‘Tis Jesus who was crucified
Think now what this must mean
For He was not just any man
In moments, He’d be seen

They ran to fill the angel’s words
“He’s risen” they should say
But as they went He met them there
While they were on the way
______________________________________
The risen Jesus greeted them
They fell and grasped His feet
He told them “do not be afraid”
Tell the others where we’ll meet

As He had said before the Cross
I’ll go to Galilee (26:32)
An after I am risen up
It’s there that they’ll see Me
____________________________________
And so they ran to tell the news
How many heard? Who knows?
But Paul will say five hundred saw (1 Cor. 15:6)
The proof that He arose

It’s here my mind reflects upon
The women at the grave
Confronted with the angel, and
The stone then rolled away
____________________________________
He didn’t need the stone removed
So He could leave the place
But so that we could enter in
And see the empty space
____________________________________
No stone, no grave, not even Death
Could keep Him locked away
The mighty risen Christ of God
All powerful to save
____________________________________
And He who broke the pow’r of death
To rise and live again
This same redeeming Son of God
To you His grace extends

Believe Him as your substitute
The wrath of God endured
For all who place their faith in Him
Eternal life secured

The women found an empty tomb
Thus all in Him one day
Raised up in Him when He returns
Will leave our empty grave
