Superstitious Christianity

1 Tim. 1:3 As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, 4 nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith.

June 6, 2006 – 666 ARE YOU READY?

Ready for WHAT?

Superstition is bad. Christian superstition is worse. Superstition by itself is simply a form of false religion. When it creeps into Christianity, it makes Christianity to take on false religious hues. And, as our text says, promotes (encourages, sustains, feeds) “speculations rather than the stewardship (guarding the truth deposit entrusted to us) from God that is by faith” (that is rooted in what GOD has said).

Hence today’s article carried by the AFP News Services and distributed worldwide: Dutch Evangelicals Calls [sic] for pray-in against the Devil. If you like, you can read the entire article – HERE

The Bottom line is, that several thousand “Evangelicals” (I put it in quotes because nothing could more anti-evangelical) under the auspices of Ambassadors Ministries there. The article quotes AM sources as saying: “We believe that the plans the enemy has for this date (June 6, 2006) will be destroyed through violent worship and praise. We are inviting the entire world to be part of this huge unity project…”The forces of evil are using this day,” Mathijs Piet of the organization told AFP. “Through our action we want to stop them from achieving their goal.”

Now I will not spend a lot of time refuting this nonsense. I have no doubt these folk are as sincere as the day is long – but they are both horribly and dangerously (because of what it imports into true faith) wrong.

Here is the simple way to relegate this line of thinking to exactly where it belongs. Ask yourself –
where was this response (and thus WAS it needed) on June 6 of the year 6 AD? THERE’S 666 for ya! How about June 6, 16 AD? Or 26, 36, how about June 6 – 66 AD? June 6 in the year 666 AD? On and on it goes, and where it stops – nobody knows. Because it is utter foolishness.

Do you know the real damage the Enemy of our souls with do on June 6 or 2006? He’ll divert the attention of literally thousands from the sacred trust of the Gospel, to do mythical battle with a mythical host of numerically empowered demonic forces. Are there demons? You bet. Are they somehow bound to numbers in this way? Only in the superstitious minds of men.
