Walk in Wisdom – Gleanings from the Scriptures
From: Heb. 9.11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) 12 he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. 13 For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of goats and bulls and with the ashes of a heifer sanctifies for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
In our current study in Romans, this past Sunday we were reminded that the Christian is one who remains “in his kindness” (verse 22). In other words, we find Christ our TOTAL sufficiency for salvation, and can add nothing more to His work.We depend utterly and completely upon His kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
As I pondered that, Edward Mote’s famous words came to mind: “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness…”
It was then I felt a need to express the same thing but in the negative – i.e. that while our hope is indeed built on nothing LESS than Jesus’ blood and righteousness, so it is also based upon nothing MORE. He is our all sufficient Savior.
So it is I offer up to you the follow lyrics to be sung to the very same tune. I hope it serves to bless your soul.
Verse 1
My hope is built on nothing more Than Jesus’ life and what He bore I dare not trust in anything But what His death and rising bring
Refrain
This hope alone I now confess That Jesus is my righteousness That Jesus is my righteousness
Verse 2
When my own sin brings grief and shame I joy alone in Jesus’ name Who took my guilt at Calvary And nailed it to His Cross for me

When conscience makes my soul to bleed His death for me is all I plead For all my sin He paid in blood To cleanse me in that crimson flood
Refrain
This hope alone I now confess That Jesus is my righteousness That Jesus is my righteousness
