Luke 6.20 “And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said…46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? 47 Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.”
Want to live that kind of rock-solid life, no matter what? We can. We need to “do what” He has told us. And what exactly is that? Its covered in the intervening verses. But let me paraphrase for the sake of time and space. There’s a kingdom to be had for all who know the bankruptcy of this world, and theirs in it. There is satisfaction coming for all who know that nothing in this world satisfies. There is laughter ahead, for those who truly grasp the low estate of things here and now. In other words, for those who are Christ’s and find themselves so contrary to the world around them – there is a great and joyful reward just ahead in Heaven – so live like you know its true! Treat your enemies like you’re about to inherit the universe. Treat those who offend you, like you’re about to receive the key to the City. Give away your stuff like you’re waiting for the keys to your new mansion. Forgive like tomorrow – everything’s different, and no one can ever hurt you again. Lend your neighbor your weed whacker like someone just gave you a private gardener for life. Give like every dollar you put in someone else’s hand, puts $1000.00 more in your personal account. Live like the blessing of being Christ’s and all the promises He has given are so true – that you can’t possibly live like things are just the way they are. Live solid. Live Rock sure. Live free. Live blessed. Because that’s what you are. “And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said…46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?” Like what? Like living today as though He, Jesus, the One who gave His very life for you – live like He has been raised from the dead, is seated right now on the right hand of glory, and is preparing to return and get you so that you might live with Him forever. Live like the Gospel is real. Live like we have been reconciled to God through Him – and have eternal life right ahead us. Live like what He has said is true. Live!
