1 Cor. 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

I originally wrote this for our wedding. But having gone back to read it last
evening, I thought you all might like to see it as well. It is just a reminder of the
glories yet to be ours when we are at last united with King Jesus in the
consummation of the ages.

I’m going to be away the rest of the week – so I offer up to you a protracted but extraordinary piece of sound divinity from the pen of that grand 18th century Scottish Presbyterian – Thomas Chalmers.
Stilted in its English, working through this inciteful and powerful paper is worth every bit of extra effort to overcome the cumbsersome prose. Let your soul feast.

Meet Andrea. A beautiful, vibrant, pleasant 21 year old – full of promise.

I preached her funeral yesterday.
This last Friday morning (June 23rd), in the wee hours, she had a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer and was instantly killed. Andrea was struggling in life. I was going to write a review of this book, but I was too saddened. And, conflicted over how to approach such a clear departure from the faith. The review/response would have to be larger then the book. And to what end? As I pondered, a friend of mine, Ben Askins, sent me the following quote from C. S. Lewis on an unrelated subject. As I reflected upon it, I realized, it IS the review of this sad book. Why try to improve upon it?
“All theology of the liberal type involves at some point the claim that
the real behavior and purpose and teaching of Christ came very rapidly to
be misunderstood and misrepresented by his followers, and has been
recovered or exhumed only by modern scholars.”Pray for Brian.

I am currently preaching through 2 Timothy. As is an exercise with me, I try to paraphrase the passage I am working on. This is a modest attempt to capture some of Paul’s glorious counsel to Timothy through the Spirit’s inspiration (to Paul, NOT me).
I hope you find it helpful.

Yesterday I gave you my one-word (in most cases) summaries of the books of the Old Testament. The idea is to help in memorization and being able to quickly digest and keep the stream of redemptive history in mind.
Today – we’re movin’ on!
