Our Church is currently reading through the Bible together. Following the Discipleship Journal Bible Reading plan, in about 20 minutes per day – only 5 days per week (gives you Sats & Suns to catch up or reflect). With that, most days as time permits (Tuesdays are my day off) I’ve been writing a short piece to go with each day’s reading, and I thought maybe I’d include it here on the blog each day as well. Who knows – it might just be a blessing to someone. By the way – I use the ESV – the official version of Responsive Reiding.

Sexual sin is a monster. A perennial hunter of men’s souls that destroys families, individuals and their entire lives. Unchecked, it so ravishes the being as to make normal thought processes impossible. The mildest and meekest of men inwardly can be licentious, ravening wolves, with seldom a single pure thought about a woman – from their own wives and children to the kindly grandmother next door. And if you think I’m exaggerating, you look at the statistics.

It is proverbial that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. This can especially be true when it comes to doctrine. The doctrine of God’s sovereignty for instance, often comes into conflict within our thinking when it comes to the place of human responsibility or prayer. That’s CHRISTIAN GRIDLOCK.
A few years ago I preached on this one aspect of Christian gridlock in addessing the question – “If God is sovereign, why pray?” It is a topic which reappears over and over. So I thought I might take this opportunity to supply you with a transcript of that sermon.
If you’ve ever wrestled with this problem, I hope this might shed a little light on it for you.
