  • Reading Through the Bible – Feb. #2

    February 7th, 2006

    esv2.jpg

Life doesn’t get easy, just because we’re Christ’s – In fact – that may be when it starts to really heat up!

  • Reading Through The Bible

    February 6th, 2006

esv2.jpgOur Church is currently reading through the Bible together. Following the Discipleship Journal Bible Reading plan, in about 20 minutes per day – only 5 days per week (gives you Sats & Suns to catch up or reflect). With that, most days as time permits (Tuesdays are my day off) I’ve been writing a short piece to go with each day’s reading, and I thought maybe I’d include it here on the blog each day as well. Who knows – it might just be a blessing to someone.

By the way – I use the ESV – the official version of Responsive Reiding. esv.logo.gif

  • SEXUAL BONDAGE

    January 27th, 2006

    chains.jpg

Sexual sin is a monster. A perennial hunter of men’s souls that destroys families, individuals and their entire lives. Unchecked, it so ravishes the being as to make normal thought processes impossible. The mildest and meekest of men inwardly can be licentious, ravening wolves, with seldom a single pure thought about a woman – from their own wives and children to the kindly grandmother next door. And if you think I’m exaggerating, you look at the statistics.

  • Christian Gridlock

    January 19th, 2006

    gridlock.jpg

It is proverbial that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. This can especially be true when it comes to doctrine. The doctrine of God’s sovereignty for instance, often comes into conflict within our thinking when it comes to the place of human responsibility or prayer. That’s CHRISTIAN GRIDLOCK.

A few years ago I preached on this one aspect of Christian gridlock in addessing the question – “If God is sovereign, why pray?” It is a topic which reappears over and over. So I thought I might take this opportunity to supply you with a transcript of that sermon.

If you’ve ever wrestled with this problem, I hope this might shed a little light on it for you.

  • A New Year’s Thought

    December 31st, 2005

Charlene Dash writes how she intends to live the new year of 2006 –

“Small, repetitive, daily living that, at best, will breathe life-giving love into toxic places, that is the work that the Creator designed. The location is inconsequential really. The blaze of glory is reserved for the Creator alone and, to the world around us, is often seen best when our living and doing is no more.”

This is truly Christian living. To which she appends this question we all need to ask –

“Am I content with the Master’s design?”

    Happy New Year!

This morning’s Drudge Report said: HOLLYWOOD ROCKED: ‘GAY COWBOY’ MOVIE BECOMES AN OSCAR FRONTRUNNER

Arriving with nudity and explicit gay sex scenes between two cowboys, UNIVERSAL/FOCUS FILMS’s BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN has quietly become an award season frontrunner, interviews with Academy members reveal.

“It could very well be the last film standing at this year’s Oscars,” a top Hollywood producer not associated with the film explained from Hollywood.

“There was not a dry eye in the house at the screening at Telluride [Film Festival in Colorado],” says the producer, who asked not to be named out of respect for the cast and crew of the producer’s own Oscar contender. “Watch it come out of the gate at the Golden Globes with super controversy.”

    What are we to say?

    the_little_book_of_things_you_should_know_about_ministry.jpg

If I can’t recommend my own book, then why write it in the first place? However, I won’t review it. That, I’ll leave to others. You may in the comment section if you like. Good, bad or indifferent. It is a faulty piece at best – but I do believe there is some practical advice to be had in avoiding my mistakes. The review below was by Gareth James in the Evangelical Times.
